The Former Residence of Gan Teng Siew (1891-1970)
Gan Teng Siew was one of the pioneers who had contributed in the development of Kluang. His origin was Hokkien Yong Chun. He had come from Negeri Sembilan to Kluang in 1920s. He then became very rich after he turned 3000 acres of forest into rubber estate and tapioca estate. He was the chairman of the Anti-Japanese Salvation, Fundraising Association in Kluang. His fifth son Gan Boon Koo was one of the founders of Malayan Banking Berhad and he became the deputy managing director there for many years. His son in law, Teh Wan Boon, who was fluent in English and Japanese, was a prominent entrepreneur. Some of Gan’s children devoted themselves in the education field. The house was located at No. 28, Jalan Ismail. It was built in 1934 as seen on the building. The title “LuGuo” indicates the noble prefecture origin of the Gan Family.
