The original site of Chong Hwa High School, Kluang.
This street was the cradle of Chinese schools in Kluang. The Overseas Chinese School was established in 1918 (house No. 37-40); Pei Yin School was established in 1920 (house No. 35-36); Chong Hwa Girls’ School was established in 1926 (house No. 34), all schools were operating here until the Japanese invasion of Malaya in 1941. After the war had ended in 1945, the boards of directors from the three schools decided to merge; the school was then renamed as Chong Hwa School, Kluang, thus began the century-long journey of Chinese education in Kluang. The Sheng Huo Book Shop, Zhong Hua Education Supplies, Dong Qiu Book Shop were also located on the same road, it was therefore called ” the literary street”.
